College & Career Expo Volunteer Opportunities

The College and Career Expo is the largest event of its kind in the region. More than 3,500 students come through the Palmer Events to meet with employers, colleges, technical schools and career advisers. There are two opportunities available for volunteers: day-of event volunteering and outreach from June to October.

Event Outreach Volunteer

Purpose of Position in Skillpoint Alliance

Under the supervision of the Business Development Manager, the Event Outreach Volunteer provides support leading up to the College and Career Expo. The Event Outreach Volunteer collaborates with the College and Career Expo staff to assist with the business calling campaign and recruit businesses, educational institutions and community organizations to participate.

Responsibilities:

  • Contacts potential booth participants by phone and email
  • Identifies potential businesses and educational institutions
  • Manages calling campaign
  • Supports communication and marketing of Expo
  • Assists with the calling script by suggesting updates and changes

Schedule:

  • Any time M-F 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Commitment of 8 hours per month

College & Career Expo Event Volunteer

Position Description
Under the supervision of the Business Development Manager, the Event Volunteer provides support the day of the College and Career Expo. The expo is the largest event of its kind in the region; 3,500 juniors and seniors in the Central Texas area meet with 90 businesses, community organizations and secondary education institutions. The Event Volunteer collaborates with the College and Career Expo staff to assist with event check-in, crowd control, prize drawings and general event support.

Potential positions:

Greeter

  • Shifts: 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.; 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Greets students as they enter the Expo
  • Directs students to the major areas of the Expo, including High-Tech, Public Sector, Private Sector and Educational Institutions
  • Hands out informational documents on Financial Aid, College Applications and College planning

Event Set-Up

  • Shift: 7:30 to 9 a.m.
  • Assists businesses with set-up of booths
  • Transports business materials to proper booths
  • Directs businesses to booth location

General

  • Shifts: 9 to 11 a.m.; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Directs students to proper booths
  • Supports business and educational institution booths
  • Hands out informational documents
  • Answers students questions related to finding booths and prize drawings
