Information for Educators

More than 22,000 youth have participated in college and career awareness initiatives since Skillpoint Alliance’s inception. The Annual College & Career Fair is foremost in the nonprofit organization’s selection of student programs. High school juniors and seniors are invited to explore potential career opportunities that match their strengths; to meet with higher education representatives about appropriate coursework; and to receive information about attending college.

The colorful, exciting event helps students think about and prepare for their future and offers them resources to achieve dreams of higher education and rewarding careers. Representatives from area businesses, industries, universities, the military, organizations, and government agencies are available to answer questions and provide information.

TEKS alignment in several subject areas, and sample lesson plans are available for participating educators to prepare students who will attend and for follow-up activities. Career interests can be pursued in many “Achieve Texas” cluster areas, and in a special area, students can learn everything they need to know about postsecondary education.

Résumés are encouraged as a pre-event classroom activity and for presentation at the event. Hands-on experiences in several areas will qualify students as eligible to win special prizes such as iPods and gift certificates. Highlights include a major competition in the Multi-Media Exchange section (MMX) for student digital media productions that will be judged during the event by well known industry leaders.

Your school is invited! Please join us at the next College & Career Expo. Contant scarr@skillpointalliance.org for more information.

Hundreds of 9- to 14-year-olds participated in the Central Texas FIRST LEGO League (FLL) program thanks to the amazing support of parents, schools, mentors from local high tech companies, colleges and universities, and tons of volutneers.  Students engaged in hands-on probelm solving with LEGO Robotics while researching real-world issues and creating their own solutions. "This event was amazing," an FLL student participant said.  "My team had such a wonderful time. The energy and enthusiasm were unbelievable."
