Educator Professional Development

The goal of Educator Professional Development (EPD) is to strengthen the education process by developing programs that offer experiences that are more relevant and connected to “real-world” demands students will encounter as they strive to succeed in the 21st century.

The centerpiece of this initiative is Skillpoint’s Summer Educator Institutes (SEIs), an industry-led professional development program designed to enhance the ability of teachers to improve student learning by exposing them to cutting-edge industry information and practices.

Skillpoint Alliance partners with the Transformation 2013 T-STEM Center housed at Region XIII Education Service Center to provide teachers high quality science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)classroom content and additional resources. EPD's signature industry and career focused experiences compliment Region XII's pedagogy resulting in professional development that engages teachers in new ways.

Ronald Smith evacuated from Hurricane Katrina and arrived in Austin with only $40. He came to Skillpoint Alliance where we helped him obtain skills in construction through our adult workforce program, Construction Gateway. He then found employment with Zachry Construction in Austin. “Hope was a main element and this program, Construction Gateway, enhanced it and gave me the opportunity to expand my skills,” Smith said. “The people of Austin have been very generous to me.
