Our Skillpoint Alliance team would like to send a big, huge shout-out to all Central Texas nurses and a special high-five to our Certified Nurse Aide graduates for National Nurses Week. National Nurses Week is celebrated May 6 through 12 to raise awareness of the nursing industry and show some appreciation for our hardworking nurses.

Did you know? Texas could lose more than 40 percent of its working nurses in the next ten years due to retirements. The average age of Registered Nurses in Texas is 46, which does not bode well for the future workforce.

Our solution: train unemployed, underemployed and/or unskilled adults in Central Texas for nursing careers with rapid, hands-on, intense training through the Gateway program. It’s a four-week course that qualifies graduates to work as Certified Nurse Aides. Graduates typically work in long-term care facilities, hospitals and personal home healthcare. Past graduates have been hired at Onion Creek Assisted Living, Progressive Home Health, the South Austin Medical Center, Riverside Rehab and Healthcare, among others. Historically, more than 80 percent of Gateway graduates find jobs in the field within 45 days.
