In February 2010, Tom Foreman and his CNN road crew travelled around the United States seeking programs and people that were "Building Up America." In Austin, Tom covered Skillpoint Alliance's Gateway Construction program to show how this popular rapid employment training program is doing its part to help pull America out of the latest recession.

Gateway's flagship program, Gateway Construction, has been serving clients in the Central Texas region since 1994. This video from 2001 provides an insight into the program and what makes it successful.

The heart and soul of the Gateway programs lie in the intimate and inspiring graduation ceremonies held for each class. This clip is taken from the September 2008 Gateway Construction graduation.

Ronald Smith evacuated from Hurricane Katrina and arrived in Austin with only $40. He came to Skillpoint Alliance where we helped him obtain skills in construction through our adult workforce program, Construction Gateway. He then found employment with Zachry Construction in Austin. “Hope was a main element and this program, Construction Gateway, enhanced it and gave me the opportunity to expand my skills,” Smith said. “The people of Austin have been very generous to me.
