Gateway: The Playhouse Project is a new delivery of Gateway's traditional Construction model. The program delivers the same award winning rapid employment training for construction trades that has been in place since 1994, but we've teamed up with some of Central Texas' best architects and contractors to raise the stakes.

Inspired by the Dreams Happen Playhouse Auction in California from the Rebuilding Together Peninsula, Gateway: The Playhouse Project seeks to create a greater community involvement for our popular Skillpoint Alliance adult workforce programs. Instead of building a simple work shed from recycled blueprints, each class will now team with an architect and contractor to try to create and construct the coolest playhouse they can imagine. Each playhouse will adhere to an 8' x 10' blueprint with a limit of 10' x 6' in heighth, but other than that anything goes! (See some great sample photos of what other architects have done in the Dreams Happen Playhouse Auction.)

Once all of the playhouses are completed, they will be on display for about month at The Domain. At the end of this time period, Skillpoint Alliance will hold an auction for these "dream" playhouses with the proceeds benefitting workforce development here in Central Texas. Additionally, a raffle will be held that will reward one lucky winner with their very own Playhouse Project home.

We are currently seeking sponsors to help offset the cost of advertising for our upcoming online auction (April 30 - May 16) and we are always seeking architects, contractors and local retailers to contribute to The Playhouse Project. If you are interested in being a partner or a sponsor, please contact Gateway Programs Manager Casey Smith at csmith@skillpointalliance.org or by telephone at (415)694-0224.

Hundreds of 9- to 14-year-olds participated in the Central Texas FIRST LEGO League (FLL) program thanks to the amazing support of parents, schools, mentors from local high tech companies, colleges and universities, and tons of volutneers.  Students engaged in hands-on probelm solving with LEGO Robotics while researching real-world issues and creating their own solutions. "This event was amazing," an FLL student participant said.  "My team had such a wonderful time. The energy and enthusiasm were unbelievable."
