
Gateway HV / AC
Gateway HV / AC is an additional component to the Gateway Construction core component which includes:
- Additional 4-Weeks of Class
- Plumbing Code, Multi-Media Pipe & Fittings, DWV and Distribution Stystems Intro
- NCCER 1-Year Plumbing Apprentice Credit
Gateway Construction Tech
Gateway Construction is a full-day, four-week training program that gives graduates credentials for immediate employment in entry-level construction jobs. Students complete coursework including:
- Construction Math
- Blue Print Reading
- Basic Safety
- Introduction & use of hand tools
- Introduction & use of power tools
- Green building, including EnergyStar, SIP paneling and Energy Auditing
- Professional communication & employability skills
Students also participate in the completion of hands-on construction projects. Each group complete smaller projects like picnic tables and benches for local businesses and one larger project to serve Gateway: The Playhouse Project. Playhouses are fully safe and functional 8’x10’ structures designed by local Architects and overseen by local General Contractors. The plans include roofs & windows, playful details, are wired with electrical outlets and can have capabilities for water systems and/or air conditioning.
Graduates of the program earn their 4 national and industry recognized certificates:
- National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Certification in Core Craft Skills
- OSHA-10 Safety Certification and Wallet Card
- Red Cross First Aid
- Red Cross CPR
In addition, they receive a Marketable Skills Award from Austin Community College and Certificates of Completion from the local chapters of Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) and Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC).

Eligibility
- 16 years of age or older
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- English skills assessed at or above the 9th grade and Math skills at or above the 10th grade level using the Test of Adult Basic Education [TABE]
- Motivation and dedication to complete the full 4-week intensive course
How do I get started?
To start the enrollment process, interested students must complete an application. Applications are available as follows:
- Complete an application in person at one of the local Workforce Solutions Centers or the Skillpoint Alliance offices at 201 East 2nd Street, Suite B (corner of East 2nd Street and San Jacinto), Austin, TX 78701
- Download and complete the application form and submit it in person at a Workforce Solutions Center, Skillpoint Alliance offices or Fax: (512) 323-5884
