DMC / TEEC Joint Council MeetingThe Digital Media Council (DMC) and Technology & Education Executive Council (TEEC) at Skillpoint Alliance hosted its Combined Quarterly meeting on Friday, June 4. The meeting featured a “pecha-kucha” format (see footnote below) that provided a fast-paced insight into the unique work the councils and its members do. Advanced Micro Devices’ (AMD) Austin Lone Star Campus proved the perfect backdrop for the morning’s events, which drew roughly 50 business, community, and education executives for the high-energy briefing. The morning included presentations by: AMD, Del Valle ISD, the City of Austin, Applied Materials, Media Boot Camp, Girl Start, SIGGRAPH, and the Vislab @Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC).

Ronald Smith evacuated from Hurricane Katrina and arrived in Austin with only $40. He came to Skillpoint Alliance where we helped him obtain skills in construction through our adult workforce program, Construction Gateway. He then found employment with Zachry Construction in Austin. “Hope was a main element and this program, Construction Gateway, enhanced it and gave me the opportunity to expand my skills,” Smith said. “The people of Austin have been very generous to me. Thanks, Skillpoint Alliance!"
