Operation Bootstrap Operation Bootstrap is an initiative of Skillpoint Alliance's Gateway Construction & Electrical programs to provide footwear and other safety equipment to Gateway participants. Started in 2010 by Eagle Scout candidate Will Newton of Troop 17 in Austin, Texas, Operation Boot Strap seeks to lend a helping hand to students equipped with the desire to begin a new chapter in their lives but lacking the resources to do so. All proceeds of Operation Bootstrap go directly to Gateway students. How do I get involved? To participate in Operation Bootstrap, simply make a contribution. You can make a financial donation that will be applied toward the Gateway Construction & Electrical programs directly or you can donate safety equipment to be used by the students.  Ronald Smith evacuated from Hurricane Katrina and arrived in Austin with only $40. He came to Skillpoint Alliance where we helped him obtain skills in construction through our adult workforce program, Construction Gateway. He then found employment with Zachry Construction in Austin. “Hope was a main element and this program, Construction Gateway, enhanced it and gave me the opportunity to expand my skills,” Smith said. “The people of Austin have been very generous to me.
