The Digital Media for Youth (DMY) Program

A comprehensive, systemic program that implements digital media curriculum in Central Texas high schools, the DMY program provides students and teachers with:

  • advanced technology workshops,
  • college and career awareness events, and
  • a regional competition and showcase.

The DMY program targets and supports more than 100 high school students and teachers in Central Texas.

advanced technology workshops

The workshops for digital media classrooms are comprehensive and customized to meet the needs of students and teachers. These one-day workshops provide students and teachers industry-led, hands-on training using one or more advanced software technologies. These trainings enhance existing curricula that allow students to gain skills and experience through manipulating industry-standard technology tools.

college and career awareness events

Leveraging the Digital Media Council industry and education members, we provide student tours of local video game studios, film production studios and sound stages, and animation houses. Additionally, students are invited to visit Austin Community College’s Video Game Department, the University of Texas’ Digital Arts & Media program and Texas State University’s Computer Science department. Students engage with faculty, administration and students to learn more about local technology and digital media post-secondary education opportunities. Finally, students are invited to attend Skillpoint’s College & Career Expo in October.

regional competition and showcase

The Digital Media Exchange competition is a regional event in Austin, Texas. Student teams submit their technology projects in one or more of 6 categories: video games, 2D art, film, animation, journalism/broadcast, and community service. Winners in each category win awards and prizes, including scholarship money, software and hardware tools, classroom grants, and other prizes. Winners in each category showcase their projects to college faculty and administrators, industry professionals, and almost 3,000 students at the Skillpoint Alliance College and Career Expo.

"This event was amazing," an FLL student participant said.  "My team had such a wonderful time. The energy and enthusiasm were unbelievable."
