DIGITAL MEDIA PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Classification: Non-exempt – Professional
Supervisor: STEM Council Director
Purpose of Position in Skillpoint Alliance
Under the supervision of the STEM Council Director, the Digital Media Program Coordinator will plan, promote and execute digital media programs, with an emphasis on game design and mobile applications.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as key point of contact for digital media industry and education partners;
- Coordinate educational game design and mobile app development programs for K-12 students;
- Assist the STEM Council Director in presenting program updates at quarterly STEM Council Meetings;
- Convene employers, K-12 and post-secondary educators and community-based organizations with an interest in targeted industries to help support, develop, and identify short and long term education and workforce solutions in digital media trades;
- Research emerging digital media education initiatives and public-private partnerships;
- Recruit and coordinate volunteers for public events;
- Assist STEM Council Director with fundraising efforts associated with digital media programs; and
- Create and use survey tools for program reporting, post-evaluation, and financial administration.
Program Administration
- Work with Marketing Director to maintain website information, update calendar and highlight media coverage at events;
- Design, promote and execute digital media workshops for educators;
- Plan classroom, afterschool, summer camp, and industry site visit activities for K-12 students;
- Recruit digital media exhibitors at annual College & Career Expo; and
- Produce paid summer internships for high school students.
Cultivate on-going relationships with Education Partners and Community-based Organizations:
- Keep educators and students informed about STEM Career Awareness activities;
- Coordinate industry-relevant professional development in partnership with existing and emerging ISD and postsecondary programs and in coordination with other Skillpoint Alliance initiatives;
- Attend community meetings with organizations including the International Game Developer’s Association – Austin Chapter, the Texas Motion Picture Alliance, and the Austin Community College Video Game Seminar Series in order to facilitate growth and communication within the Central Texas digital media community.
Location/Hours/Schedule
- Full-time, 40 hour work week
- Skillpoint Alliance headquarters and other site locations, which may include school district administrative sites, classrooms, community events and industry partner locations
Physical Demands
- Work is both sedentary and mobile (minimally), indoors mostly.
- In-town travel (mileage compensated) and OCCASIONAL out of town travel
Required Skills
- Ability to manage complex collaborations and projects on time and on budget;
- Experience in developing and cultivating public-private partnerships;
- Excellent communication skills including public speaking, meeting facilitation, e-communications, website ,maintenance, and grant writing;
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to motivate others, work with a variety of personalities, and encourage teamwork; and
- Ability to develop relationships across industry, education, government, and nonprofit sectors.
Required Education / Experience
- Must have a B.A. or B.S.
- Some experience in program coordination, community outreach and/or public relations
- Demonstrated recognition and respect for diversity of culture and background
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with current trends, needs, and tools of the Central Texas digital media industry;
- Understanding of the multifaceted manner in which digital media creation and consumption currently impacts education;
- Experience in hosting project-based learning programs for K-12 students; and
- Experience in identifying and preparing successful grant applications
Compensation
- Annual Salary: $27,000 - $32,000
- Full benefits including medical insurance, dental, vision, Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and 401K plan with matching contribution

Hundreds of 9- to 14-year-olds participated in the Central Texas FIRST LEGO League (FLL) program thanks to the amazing support of parents, schools, mentors from local high tech companies, colleges and universities, and tons of volutneers. Students engaged in hands-on probelm solving with LEGO Robotics while researching real-world issues and creating their own solutions. "This event was amazing," an FLL student participant said. "My team had such a wonderful time. The energy and enthusiasm were unbelievable."
