LISTEN UP!
The Listen Up Velocity Prep program was a 4 week Sound & Video editing internship that ran from June 8 - July 2, 2009. Twenty students from across the Austin school district went to work each day from 8 am to 4 pm, learning what life was like in the "real world" and presented their final projects to a group of education and industry professionals at Travis High School on July 1.
The students were tasked with creating a series of public service announcements and a five-minute video for the African American Men & Boys Association. The students learned how to operate professional sound and video equipment, conduct interviews and deliver a final product that would be shown at the final presentation as well as aired locally. They received guidance along the way from industry professionals like Rebecca MacInroy and Mike Lee who helped them record and edit audio pieces for the radio. Most students had very little experience, but were quick to learn and were able to deliver a product that Harvest Foundation director Michael Lofton vowed to use in future marketing efforts on a national scale.
Special thanks to program sponsor Austin ISD and industry partner Harvest Foundation.
